How To Use Tesco Clubcard Points to Buy Cruises

On cruises with Royal Caribbean, P&O, and Cunard it is possible to use Tesco Clubcard points to pay for your cruise.

The value of the Clubcard points are usually doubled, meaning that £1 worth of Clubcard points will usually pay for £2 worth of cruise.

Which Cruise Lines Accept Tesco Clubcard Points as Payment?

Royal Caribbean, P&O Cruises, and Cunard allow passengers to book cruises using Tesco Clubcard points.

These are a number of terms and conditions attached to the purchase, which normally include a minimum spend and maximum voucher value.

Using Tesco Clubcard points can be a great way to save money on a cruise as the value is multiplied.

What Are Clubcard Points And How Do I Get Them?

Clubcard points are loyalty points gathered by shopping in the UK supermarket Tesco.

To get a Clubcard you must sign up online or in-store. You can then scan your Clubcard or scan the code on the Tesco App each time you shop in Tesco.

Shoppers collect 1 point for every £1 spent in Tesco stores or 1 point for every 2 litres of fuel purchased in Tesco petrol stations.

100 points are worth £1 to be spent in-store, or £2 if you spend with partner companies.

Clubcard points can be ‘spent’ in Tesco as payment – or can be exchanged with a number of other companies for vouchers which are usually an increased value on the Clubcard fare.

Using Clubcard Points to Book a Royal Caribbean Cruise

One of the most popular cruise lines to book using Clubcard points is Royal Caribbean.

Royal Caribbean are popular with families, young adults, and older adults too. They sail across the world and have many large and exciting ships.

To see how I got on when I sailed on the Royal Caribbean Mega ship, Symphony of the Seas, watch this video next:

When applied to a Royal Caribbean cruise, £1 worth of Tesco Clubcard points is worth £2.

There are a few terms and conditions which relate to buying Royal Caribbean cruises with Tesco Clubcard points:

Minimum Cruise Value

  • The cruise must cost at least £510 per guest (excluding taxes). This must be the file price that you are paying per passenger so no discounts or deals can reduce this price. This price also cannot include gratuities.

Maximum Clubcard Reward

  • The maximum value of Clubcard points that you can purchase is £510 per guest.

Cruise Payment Date

  • Cruises must be booked, and fully paid at least 69 nights before departure. 69 nights seems like a bit of an odd timeframe since most travel agents and cruise lines ask for payment 60 days before.

Cruise Length

Note: Royal Caribbean can convert the spend back into Clubcard points if necessary.

  • The cruise must be at least 7 nights long.

Age Restrictions

  • One guest must be at least 18 or 21 if cruising around North America and Canada. This is pretty standard for most cruise lines.

New Bookings Only

  • If you have already booked a Royal Caribbean cruise, you cannot use Tesco Clubcard points to pay off the remaining balance. Tesco Clubcard points are valid only for new bookings.

Cruise Booking Only

  • The value of the Tesco Clubcards can only be used against the cruise itself – if buying as part of a package the Tesco Clubcard points cannot be used against flights, hotels, excursions or any other onboard expenses.
    • This means that your cruise itself (without flights) must cost the £510 mentioned above per guest.

Other Discounts

  • Tesco Clubcard cannot be used with the following discounts:
    • Future Cruise Certificates, Defence Discounts, Blue Light Card Discounts or any cashback sites.
  • Vouchers can be used with Crown and Anchor Society discounts (Royal Caribbeans loyalty scheme).

If you cancel your cruise after having paid with Clubcard points Royal Caribbean may keep some to cover things like cancellation charges.

  6. Click the link in the email to go to Royal Caribbean’s website. When buying your cruise, tick the Clubcard points box and enter the voucher code. You can also use the voucher over the phone by calling Royal Caribbean. The prices of Royal Caribbean cruises usually don’t vary between the prices on the phone and the internet.

Using Clubcard Points to Book a Cunard Cruise

Cunard also accepts Tesco Clubcard points as payment towards cruises.

£10 worth of Tesco Clubcard points is worth £20 of Cunard cruise vouchers.

Vouchers must be bought in increments of £10.

I took my first cruise with Cunard in 2016 and had an amazing time.

Cunard sail the worlds last Ocean Liner, the Queen Mary 2. It is a wonderful ship.

I definitely wouldn’t recommend a Cunard cruise to everybody though as the dress codes are quite strict. To learn more about my experience cruising with Cunard, watch the video below:

Offers

  • Clubcard points can be used with other offers apart from ‘repeat booker’ offers. The vouchers cannot be used for ‘Early’ or ‘Saver’ fare – so can only be used on ‘Select’ fares.
    • A ‘Early’ fare is a fare booked fare in advance where you have less flexibility. You’ll be assigned a cabin number and don’t have as much choice about dining times/table sizes. A ‘Saver’ fare is the same thing but usually just not booked so far in advance.
    • A ‘Select’ fare gives you a choice of cabin number and priority for dining times. There are a few other perks but these are the main ones. To read more about select fares, check out P&O Cruises’s website here: P&O Cruises, FAQ.

Other Sites You Can Use Clubcard Points on:

Hotels.com

If you planning on staying in a hotel pre or post-cruise it may be worth looking at hotels.com who offer a £10 voucher for £5 worth of Tesco Clubcard points.

The voucher can be used against the cost of the hotel room only and only the first room on any booking will be able to use Tesco Clubcard points.

To learn more check out Tesco’s website here: Hotels.com Clubcard Points.

Novotel Hotels

I’ve used Novotel hotels on a number of occasions and have always been very impressed.

They’re usually modern, clean hotels with a business kind of feeling about them.

They offer a £5.00 voucher for £2.50 of Clubcard points.
