How Much Does a Norwegian Fjord Cruise ACTUALLY Cost? (16 Examples)

If you are considering a cruise you may be wondering how much Norwegian Fjords cruises ACTUALLY cost. I’ve been on 3 Fjords cruises and have spent a lot of time researching the cheapest ways to cruise.

In this post, we will look at the prices of Norwegian Fjords cruises on the following cruise lines:  MSC Cruises, P&O Cruises, Princess Cruises, Cunard, Royal Caribbean, and Hurtigruten.

How Much do Norwegian Fjord Cruises Cost?

The average cost of a 7-night Norwegian Cruise sailing from the UK in May is £884 ($1100). This raises slightly to £963 ($1200) in July and drops to £861 ($1050) in September.

MSC, Princess, and P&O cruises are consistently the cheapest options when it comes to Norwegian Fjord cruises.

I recently cruised to the Norwegian Fjords onboard Anthem of the Seas seen below. I paid £842 for the 7-night cruise, based on two sharing in a balcony cabin.

Example Cruise Prices – 7 Nights From The UK

The table below shows example prices for a selection of Fjords cruises. All cruises are for seven days, although some companies do longer itinerates at a greater cost.

Each cruise was found either on the cruise lines’ website or on large cruise travel agents’ websites.  Only one example from each cruise line was used for the comparison, but these are the cheapest prices I found publicly available.

All these prices are for an inside cabin.  Balcony cabins will be more expensive.

The prices of cruises do of course vary but the prices below do provide a good example of what to expect.

When is The Best Time to Cruise to The Fjords?

June to August is the peak season for Norwegian Fjord cruises.

The end of July and August are normally the most expensive time to cruise, mostly because this is when British schools are on their summer holidays.

Hurtigruten are the only cruise line that sails to Norway all year round.

It’s Important to Look at What The Cruise Fare Includes

Some cruise lines include more than others, it is always worth checking what “extras” you may have to budget for. Many cruise lines charge additional gratuities or tips.

Below are examples of gratuity costs from 6 of the largest US cruise lines.

Cruise LineGratuity Cost
(Standard Cabin)
Gratuity Cost (Suite)
Royal Caribbean$14.50$17.50
Carnival$13.99$15.99
Princess Cruises$14.50$15.50
Celebrity Cruises$15.50$19.00
Holland America$14.50$16
Norwegian Cruise Line$14.99$17.99

P&O cruise fares ALWAYS include gratuities.

MSC fares OFTEN include gratuities, but check at the time of booking as this is dependent on a few factors. To learn more about this, check out this post: MSC and Gratuities – Your Guide on How Much You Can Expect to Pay

Cunard, Princess, and Royal Caribbean will add a daily gratuity to your onboard account, or you can arrange to pay them upfront before you go. To learn more about what gratuities are, check out this post: Cruise Gratuities: A Simple Step by Step Guide For First Time Cruisers

Price Variety by Cruise Line – Budget to Premium

There are a number of cruise lines that cruise the Norwegian Fjords and there is a wide variety in prices. The seven cruises discussed below are all with lines that I have personally cruised with (apart from Hurtigruten, who I haven’t cruised with yet).

MSC Cruises – A Budget Option

The average cost of a 7-night Norwegian Fjord cruise with MSC is £660 ($820) per person. It is possible to find MSC cruises for as little as £450 ($560) for the week, if you know how to find a good deal.

MSC Cruises are consistently winning awards as a family cruise line. They offer great value cruises and now include gratuities in the cruise fare. MSC are popular with young cruisers, families and groups.

In 2021 my Mum and Dad took a Norwegian Fjord cruise on the MSC Virtuosa. They had a great time and would recommend it to others.

P&O Cruises – A Mid Range Option

The average cost of a 7-night Norwegian Fjord cruise with P&O Cruises is £570 ($700) per person. P&O often have discounted 3rd and 4th passenger places when sharing a cabin which can reduce the per person cost considerably.

P&O are a British cruise line that focuses on the family market. They often have cheap family deals and cruise primarily around Europe.

P&O include gratuities in their pricing.

The experience onboard is very British, with lots of tea, Yorkshire puddings, and UK plug sockets on board.

Princess Cruises – A Mid Range Option

The average cost of a 7-night Norwegian Fjord cruise with Princess Cruises is £620 ($770) per person. Daily gratuities will be added to this price.

Princess Cruises are a cruise line owned by the Carnival Corporation.

They focus on high-quality food, entertainment, and service.

Princess is definitely one of my favourite cruise lines, their ships are gorgeous and the experience onboard is very relaxing.

There is usually a variety of nationalities onboard Princess cruises but English is the primary language spoken on board.

Princess cruises don’t include gratuities, but there is an option to upgrade to “Princess +.”  For an additional cost (at time of writing £40 a day) you will have gratuities, drinks and Wi-FI included.

Royal Caribbean – A Mid Range Option

The average cost of a 7-night Norwegian Fjord cruise with Royal Caribbean is £930 ($1100) per person. A daily gratuity will be added to this price.

I cruised with Royal Caribbean to the fjords for £842 in a balcony cabin, so there are deals to be found if you know where to find them. To learn more about cruising on a budget, check out my cruise course here: Cruise For Less.

Royal Caribbean have the biggest cruise ships on the market and they constantly fill the ships with new and exciting innovations.

It is almost impossible to be bored on a Royal Caribbean cruise, the daily schedule is busy and there are things going on around the clock.

There are multiple dining options on board all ships and the food is generally of high quality.

Daily gratuities will be added to your account daily, as with most American cruise lines.

Cunard – A Mid Range Option

The average cost of a 7-night Norwegian Fjord cruise with Cunard is £860 ($1070) per person. A daily gratuity will be added to this price.

Cunard is what many would consider traditional ocean cruising.

It has a very strict dress code and multiple formal nights.

Cunard cruise ships are very traditional and elegant in their design, you’ll find a lot of wood, original artwork, and big bouquets of flowers.

If you are looking for a relaxed, easy-going cruise, they are not the cruise line for you.  However the Cunard experience is quite unique and they do what they do, very well.

Hurtigruten – A Expedition Option

The average cost of a 7-night Norwegian Fjord cruise with Hurtigruten is £1600 ($200) per person.

Hurtigruten deserves a special mention when it comes to Fjords cruises.

They are the one cruise line that I have never sailed with – although I would love to!

They are more expensive than mainstream cruises, they have been sailing the Norwegian coast since 1893 so nobody knows Norway better – they say they “don’t know the locals; they are the locals.”

If you are wanting a seven-day cruise, you will have to factor in flights to Norway, seven day cruises start and end there.

There are some cruises that leave from the UK, but they are usually for 11 days or longer but fares are far more expensive.

At the time of writing, 11-day cruises start from around £2500/$3130 for a November sailing.
