Most of us know that feeling. We have been looking forward to our cruise for ages, have had a fantastic time away – and now it is all over!
Returning from a cruise can be quite depressing. You have to unpack your case, do the laundry – and face the reality of going back to work or to your normal everyday routines.
I am lucky that I get to travel multiple times a year, but there are certain things I always do to keep those post-cruise blues away. Find out what those things are in this article.
#1 Make a Photo Book
Make a photo book of your cruise, or print out photos to put in a frame or hang on the wall.
It’s easy to take lots of photos on your phone then rarely look at them again. If you have a photo book on the coffee table or a photo on the wall, it will make you smile and help you relive all those happy cruise memories.
Above are a few that I’ve made throughout the years.
Many online retailers sell photobooks. You just upload your chosen photos, and your personalised book will be sent to you in the post.
I also have a book containing plastic wallets, which keeps all of my cruise cards in order. It’s getting to be quite a thick book.
I have heard of other people who keep them in photo frames or attach them with magnets to magnets to the fridge door. I just have too many now to do that.
#2 Treat Yourself to Something Small!
Treat yourself to something nice when you get home. I am not talking about anything expensive here – I normally order my favourite takeaway/takeout as a post-cruise treat.
Buy yourself a nice Bath Bomb to use on your return – it’s not as good as a nice Cruise ship Spa, but it helps. You will smell great anyway…
#3 Buy A Cruise Map
Order yourself a cruise map of the voyage you have just taken and hang it on the wall. It’s a great conversation starter – and let’s face it, we all like talking about cruises.
Cruise Maps don’t just show the intended itinerary. They show any last-minute changes, so if you missed a scheduled port and went elsewhere, you will see it. If you had to detour to the nearest country to disembark a passenger for a medical emergency – it will show it.
These maps really are the personalised story of your cruise.

#4 Appreciate Things You Don’t Have At Sea
It’s a perfect time to appreciate the things you missed when you were at sea – like your pets.
For me, as well as being delighted to see my cat, Hudson, I can’t wait to get in the bath.
Although I have no problem having showers when I am away, you just can’t beat a nice soak in your own bath. It helps me relax and unwind.
I also miss my own toast when I travel, I’ve been all over the world but never found toast as good as the kind I can make in my own toaster!
#5 Plan Your Next Trip
It will be no surprise to anyone that I love looking at, and booking cruises.
You might return from your cruise with all sorts of ideas for the next cruise you want to take.
- You might want to try a bigger or smaller ship with the same cruise line
- You might have seen a different itinerary you would like to try.
- You might have decided that the cruise line didn’t suit you perfectly, and want to do some research on other lines you could try instead
- You might want to try a cruise from your local port next time, or a fly-cruise if you have only cruised from your local port.
- You might have loved the ship so much, you can’t wait to book another sailing on her!
