It’s no secret that I love musicals. I regularly go to London to see shows in the West End, it is one of my favourite pastimes.
One of the many reasons I love to cruise with Norwegian or Royal Caribbean is that they stage full Broadway/West End-style musicals at sea.
In this article, we look at the types of shows that you will be able to see when you sail with Norwegian or Royal Caribbean.
Shows change regularly to keep it interesting for both performers and passengers, but this article will give you an idea of what you can expect onboard the newer ships.
You can find out exactly which show will be onboard the ship you will be sailing on by looking at the cruise planner on the Cruiselines website.
Here, it will tell you which show is on and when, along with a brief description of what it is about.

It is worth noting that the older ships in the fleet don’t have Broadway-style shows. Although they have great entertainment, these are singing and dancing type shows instead.
Royal Caribbean
“Royal Caribbean International® offers the most variety of entertainment at sea. From the globally-acclaimed Broadway musical, CATS, The Musical to the toe-tapping disco beats of Saturday Night Fever, global smash MAMMA MIA! and now the smash hit Grease we bring you Broadway’s hit musicals miles away from the mainland.”
Royal Caribbean
This is an example of Broadway-style shows on Royal Caribbean ships at the time of writing. Obviously, these shows will change, so check on your cruise planner to see which are on your sailing.

I had a wonderful time when I sailed on Symphony of the Seas. There was lots to keep me occupied, Aqua Theatre Shows, Music, Multi-level slides – I could have stayed onboard all week, never getting off and wouldn’t have had time to get bored!

Norwegian Cruise Line
Sadly, Norwegian Cruise Line is phasing out Broadway musicals in 2026. This is part of a multi-year strategy to move toward internally produced, shorter, and more cost-effective entertainment.
Its final remaining Broadway-style adaptations, including Jersey Boys on Norwegian Bliss (ending February 8, 2026) and Beetlejuice on Norwegian Viva (ending March 21, 2026), will be finishing their run and will not be replaced.

I love a Broadway musical, so am sad to see these shows come to an end. Luckily, there is plenty of other entertainment and activities to keep me occupied on Norwegian ships!
I recently took a cruise to Alaska onboard the Norwegian Prima, and it wasn’t just the entertainment I loved about the ship.
