How Big Was The Titanic?
The Titanic was 882 feet (269 meters) in length and 92 feet (28 meters) wide.
The length of the Titanic is equivalent to 2.6 football pitches, 5.9 commercial aeroplanes or 2.9 times the Statue of Liberty.
The Titanic was as wide as 2.2 buses or 1/3rd of a modern aircraft carrier.
In this article, we will compare the size of Titanic to everyday objects and buildings.
How Big Was The Titanic Compared to Commercial Airplanes?
The Titanic was as long as the length of 5.9 commercial airplanes and as wide as the length of 0.6 of a commercial airplane.
Measurement | Titanic Length | Titanic Width |
Commercial Airplane | 5.9x | 60% |
The graphic below shows the comparison between the length of a commercial airplane, which is assumed to be around 150 ft in length on average, and the Titanic.
The below graphic shows the comparison between the width of the Titanic and the length of a commercial airplane.
If comparing the width of the Titanic to the width of an airplane cabin, this would be 4.6 airplanes wide.
How Big Was The Titanic Compared to a Bus?
The Titanic was the length of 22 buses and as wide as the length of 2.3 buses.
Measurement | Titanic Length | Titanic Width |
Bus Length | 22x | 2.3x |
The graphic below shows the length of the Titanic compared to the length of buses. The buses used in this example are London double-decker buses.
The graphic below shows the comparison between the width of the Titanic and the height of a bus.
Comparing the width of the Titanic to the width of a bus would make the Titanic around 10x wider.
How Big Was The Titanic Compared to an Aircraft Carrier?
Modern aircraft carriers are, on average, 25% longer than the Titanic was and are 3x as wide.
Measurement | Titanic Length | Titanic Width |
AirCraft Carrier | 80% of Carrier | 1/3rd of Carrier |
The graphic below compares the length of a modern aircraft carrier with the length of the Titanic. The measurements are based on a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier operated by the US navy.
Comparing width to width, a modern aircraft carrier is around 3x wider than the Titanic.
If we were to compare the width of the Titanic, to the length of an aircraft carrier, the Titanic would be less than 10% of the total length.
How Big Was The Titanic Compared to Noah’s Arc?
The Titanic was as long as 2 Noah’s arcs and as wide as 1.2 Noah’s Arcs.
Noah’s Arc has been estimated to be 450ft long and 75ft wide, and the Titanic had a length of 882ft and width of 92ft.
Measurement | Titanic Length | Titanic Width |
Noah’s Arc | 2x | 1.2x |
The graphic below compares the length of Noah’s arc and the length of the Titanic.
The graphic below compares the width of Noah’s arc to the width of the Titanic.
If we were comparing the width of Noah’s arc, to the length of the Titanic, this would be 12x the width of Noah’s arc.
How Big Was The Titanic Compared to a Car?
The Titanic was a long as 59 cars parked in a line. The width of the Titanic is equivalent to roughly 6.1 cars.
Measurement | Titanic Length | Titanic Width |
Car | 59 Cars | 6.1 Cars |
These calculations are created assuming a car length of 15 feet. Fifteen feet is equivalent to an Audi A1 or similar medium-sized car.
The graphic below shows the length of the Titanic compared to the length of cars.
The graphic below shows the width of the Titanic compared to the length of the average car.
If comparing the width of the Titanic with the width of a car, the Titanic would be 15x the width of the car.
How Big Was The Titanic Compared to a Football Pitch?

Football Pitch | 2.6x | 1x |
The graphic below shows the length of the Titanic, compared with the length of a standard football pitch.
The below graphic compares the width of the Titanic, with the length of a football pitch.
If comparing width to width, the Titanic was as wide as 0.3 football pitches are long.
How Big Was The Titanic Compared to The Statue of Liberty?
The Titanic was 2.9x the length of the Statue of Liberty and as wide as 1/3rd of the Statue of Liberty.
Measurement | Titanic Length | Titanic Width |
Statue of Liberty | 2.9x | 33% |
The below graphic shows the length of the Titanic, compared to the height of the Statue of Liberty. This figure includes the height of the torch.
The graphic below shows the width of the Titanic, compared to the height of the Statue of Liberty.
